11/7/2023 0 Comments Sigma 24 70 2.8 dg exSigma could charge more for these EX lenses, considering their image and build quality. Not really cheap, but more affordable than inferior counterparts, especially OEM. No front or back focus issues, hits the target every time.Ĥ. Lens is not prone to hunting or AFC dancing, even in low light. Screw focus goes from closest to infinity very quickly. The flat finish is much easier to hang onto and control under these conditions. Some people don't like the flat matte finish, but it offers a more solid grip surface than a polished surface, especially when hands are cold, sweaty or when wearing gloves. The sharpness of this lens is truly amazing.Ģ. Many say this lens is noticeably sharper than the Canon L or Nikkor ED equivalents at any aperture. At f/8 to f/22, its almost ridiculous, reminds me of the finest Schneider optics on Hasselblad and 4x5 shot on a locked tripod. Incredibly sharp optics, at f/3.5 or above. It will be interesting to see how this lens will perform within the full format test scope.1. When used on APS-C DSLRs the zoom range (38-112mm) doesn’t really qualify it as a standard zoom in the true sense although it surely has some appeal for press and basic portrait photography. The biggest problem of the Sigma is not performance but its scope. The build quality is very fine and the AF is pretty fast despite the enormous glass elements and a conventional AF micro-motor. Distortions, CAs as well as vignetting are moderate and usually nothing to worry about. It is a very sharp lens at all mainstream aperture settings. The Sigma AF 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG macro showed an impressive performance throughout all characteristics. Other Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro AF Reviews And for that reason, many people are willing to overlook the physical and optical quality differences between these two lenses. But, the Sigma is less than half the price of the Canon. … If the prices were the same, I don’t think anyone would choose the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens over the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens. Corners (1.6x FOVCF corners included) need an extra stop at all focal lengths to become very good – generally becoming very nice at f/5.6. At 70mm f/4, center performance becomes useable. To me, 70mm f/2.8 is not usable on this lens. However, performance gets progressively worse as the focal length is increased. At 24/28mm, the 24-70 is very sharp in the center at f/3.2. The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens is sharpest at the wide end of its focal length range. The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens’ AF is very loud but reasonably fast (although the noise makes it sound slower). It does not outperform (physically or optically) Canon’s similarly spec’d EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens, but it costs less than half as much. The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens is a well-built, well-spec’d lens with a decent price.
